MDCU Conference Center

Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University

Background

The Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, held its first academic conference in March 1958. This conference aimed to disseminate medical research and public health knowledge, exchange knowledge among medical professionals, and provide the public with medical information. This conference marked the beginning of a series of events including monthly conferences, seminars, and short training courses.

Previously, the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, employed a system of departmental rotation for hosting annual academic conferences. Departments were assigned their hosting duties in an alphabetical order. The Chair of the hosting department served as the conference Chair, while the Vice Chair position was filled by the Chair of the department scheduled to host the next conference. The committee comprised the representatives from various departments and Heads from the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University and King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital.

In the year 2000, the Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, established a dedicated academic conference unit under the Division of Planning and Development (Associate Dean for Planning and Development). This unit, initially named the “Academic Convention Center,” was situated on the first floor of the Aor Por Ror Building. Over time, it evolved into the present-day “MDCU Conference Center”. The Center functioned under the joint authority of the Administrative Affairs Division and the Academic Conference Committee. Its responsibilities included supporting conferences, managing classrooms and meeting rooms within the Aor Por Ror Building (with a primary focus on teaching activities), and allocating the remaining rooms for internal meetings. Subsequently, the Center’s roles were expanded to include managing classrooms at Pattayapat Building, Anandamahidol Building, and the Faculty@MDCU.

Since 2021, the MDCU Conference Center has operated under the Division of Academic Service Affairs (Associate Dean for Academic Service Affairs).
